Napa County Landmarks, 50 Years
Founded in 1974 as a non profit, Landmarks champions the preservation and reuse of historic places through education, outreach, advocacy, and research.
3d Printed Resin
Landmarks replaced the crown molding in the First National Bank in 2021. 3D Virtual Design Technology digitally scanned the original and Scansite printed a resin replacement.
A Napa Coloring Book
Each year, nearly 1,500 third graders in 65 Napa County classrooms receive a free copy of NCL’s coloring book. Created by Marie Dolcini and illustrated by Mary Ann Henderson, our bi-lingual coloring book of historic sites includes a teacher guide. In 2015, the coloring book won the Governor’s Historic Preservation Award from the State Office of Historic Preservation and State Parks.
Save the Franklin Post Office
Designed by architects Reed & Corlett, Franklin Station Post Office on Second Street in downtown Napa was built in 1933 with Federal Public Works Administration funding. The Art Deco style features fluted pilasters and a decorative cornice. In 1985 it was listed on National Register of Historic Places.
After the 2014 Napa earthquake, the U. S. Postal Service moved to demolish Franklin Station. Alongside Landmarks, the community waged a successful campaign to save the building. In 2017 it was purchased with plans to convert it to a hotel.
