Where did People Go?
From the 1840s historic settlers sought out the healing hot springs and mineral waters. Resorts could be found in the Mayacama and Vaca foothills on both sides of Napa Valley. Between 1852 and the 1920s there were over 240 resorts and hotels that hosted visitors from near and far, either enroute to the curative waters or at the Springs. Resorts catered to different audiences, including the wealthy of San Francisco and Los Angeles, the Temperance Movement, the military, and some specifically for health issues.
