Health and Medicine

As Napa became a hotspot not only for spiritual and physical wellness, it also was soon home to medical asylums for mental health and aging war veterans. The Napa State Asylum, St. Helena Sanitarium (and Rural Health Retreat), and the Veterans’ Home of California all had lasting impacts on the communities. Interestingly, these organizations with their picturesque grounds and self-sustaining farms often were featured in postcards, photographs, and brochures.
