Curatives and advertisements

Advertisements for medicines and “wonder cures” abound in early 19th century papers, including those for seltzer and mineral waters like the ones found in the geothermal environment of Napa Valley. Claims that these waters could be beneficial to conditions like consumption, asthma, dyspepsia, influenza, and others, helped to boost the popularity of Napa’s early resorts and hot springs.
