Napa Valley’s Jewish Heritage

November 7, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Napa Valley’s Jewish Heritage | A presentation with Power Point by Donna Mendelsohn

RSVP Today on Eventbrite and receive a direct link to the zoom meeting room on the day of the event.

As the world “rushed in” to profit from California’s gold strike of 1848, many Jews joined the throngs, not necessarily to mine but to sell merchandise to prospectors. Some settled in Napa Valley. These pioneers conducted business, making significant contributions to the development of the Valley. Participating in cultural life, holding public office, and leading organizations, many also made fine wines, something perfected thousands of years ago as commanded in Scripture. They continue to do so. This is their story.

Raised in Illinois, Donna Mendelsohn settled in California in 1961, and Napa in 1998 with her husband David. She is co-founder of the Jewish Historical Society of Napa Valley, a past president of Congregation Beth Shalom, Napa and co-founder and president of Ner Tamid Jewish Community Cemetery in St. Helena. She coordinated the permanent exhibit Jews and the Napa Valley at the Napa Valley Museum in Yountville.
