Biography / History
The First Advent Christian Church of Napa, California was initially organized by the evangelists D.D. Reed and J.D. Cary in October 1880 with just six members. It was eventually reorganized in March 1881 in the Napa Redwoods area with an added six members. The First Advent Christian Church was affiliated with the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission Society. The building itself was on Second Street in downtown Napa for numerous years.
Scope & Content
The Advent Christian Church Collection contains a variety of items, from circa 1930s. The collection contains administrative and financial information pertaining to the church as well as items related to its affiliated societies and some publication produced by the church itself. Some of the Church’s administrative documents are included, such as a Ledger Book that details the history of the church and contains the roll of the pastors and members as well as the Church’s 1975 Constitution. The collection also includes correspondence to and from important figures within the church throughout its time. More, the record of the collectors from 1902-1927, included with the collection, is fragile and requires delicate handling.
