“Luther Turton: Napa Valley’s Architect”
Exhibit runs through February 2013
Luther Turton, widely heralded as Napa Valley’s architect, was an incredibly prolific and versatile architect who designed homes and offices throughout California in a wide variety of architectural styles from Queen Anne to English Gothic. This exhibit will showcase historic and current views of the buildings featured in this year’s Holiday Candlelight Tour.
“Restoring Historic Buildings”

This educational program is on the process of restoring historic homes will feature local homeowners, architects, and contractors. Speakers will include Juliana Inman, local architect, Lauren Ackerman who is in the process of renovating the historic Gifford Mansion located on Randolph Street and John Kasten, Ms. Ackerman’s architect.

“Luther Turton: Napa Valley’s Architect”
Saturday, December 8, 3 pm – 7 pm
This year’s tour will showcase buildings designed by “Napa’s Architect” Luther Turton who designed many of the valley’s iconic buildings such as the Goodman Library, the Semorile Building, and the Winship Building. The tour will open both residences and businesses to attendees amply demonstrating the wide range of architectural styles employed by Turton which included everything from Romanesque to English Gothic, from Victorian Commercial style to Craftsman.
Plan to visit the vintage cars on display, the Gifford House – a historic restoration in progress – and a boutique gift bazaar.
“The Napa River” book signing and lecture
October 4, 7:00 pm at the St. Helena Public Library, 1492 Library Lane, St. Helena
Author Nancy McEnery contributes this seminal work to the Arcadia Press series of Living in America books, done with the historic materials of the Napa County Historical Society. McEnery traces the earliest beginnings of Napa as a frontier town highlighting the river’s influence on our valley’s development through the years.
