Summer means vacation time for many people, but here at Napa County Historical Society it means new interns. This summer we brought on five (!) interns. Three are students working on their Master’s in Library and Information Science at San Jose State University, and the other two are working on their BAs and studying history. Two of the interns are working on developing upcoming exhibits, and three more are processing some of our extensive archival collections.
Our new and improved internship program gives these students the chance to apply their academic knowledge in a professional archives environment, but also benefits the Historical Society by helping us process some of our most valuable collections and creating exciting new exhibits. With the assistance of some very generous community grants, we were able to hire five interns in last year to help digitize our extensive collection of historical photographs. In 2013 alone, our ten interns did over 1,000 hours worth of work! So far this year, we’re at 13 interns and more than 730 hours of work.
