Our purpose is to keep history alive through historical research, publications and educational activities.

The Society is a organization supported by membership dues, donations and volunteers. You can support us by making a donation. Donations to the Society help underwrite our changing exhibitions, internship program, youth outreach and collections preservation.

The Jess Doud Memorial Room hosts several exhibitions each year. Harvesting History delves into the rich agricultural history of the Valley. From the start of the wine industry in the mid-1800s to the transformation into prunes and walnut farms, this exhibition shows a part of Napa history not often mentioned. There was a time when wheat, not wine ruled the Valley's farms. Learn about the earliest pioneers in the wine industry, such as Krug, Josephine Tychson and Schramsberg. Sponsored by Freemark Abbey, Charles Krug Winery and the Jack Davies Fund, and curated by Jennifer Maudru, the exhibition is on display until Sept. 30th.

The Research Library is open Tuesday-Thursday, Noon - 4 p.m. The extensive Research Library has photographs, books, city directories, original unpublished manuscripts, maps, architectural plans, yearbooks and documents pertaining to the history of Napa County and its residents. The Research Library is staffed by researchers who are available to answer questions and conduct research. For more information on conducting research or submitting research requests, click on the CONTACT link on the left. You can search the
NCHS Online Catalogue of Collections too.

The Society also owns the historic Henry Haus Blacksmith & Wagon Shop in Pope Valley. Opened once a year and for school trips, the shop is a step back in time to Napa County's agricultural history and pioneer roots.
